The mystery of the dissolving chicken bones

So...funny story. Lately, we have been buying the chicken thighs from Costco instead of chicken breasts (1/2 the price for the same amount of meat!). Anyway, of course they have the bones in the things. No big deal, you just cut them out. Well, I made a crock pot meal yesterday for dinner and just threw in the chicken without cutting out the bones because I was
#1. too lazy to do it right then, and
#2. I figured it would be way easier to cut off the bone when the meat had been slow cooked.
Well, I started to shred the chicken and could find no bones to speak of. Literally strained the entire crock pot full of juices hunting for the bones. After we finished eating, we had only come up with a few small fragments of cartilage. So naturally I came to the conclusion that the bones must have dissolved in the crock pot because I definitely had NOT cut them out of the meat and I could not find anything that even remotely resembled a bone in the crock pot. Today, I was making dinner (chicken again--we eat a lot of that stuff around here) and I pull out the chicken to cut out the bone...only get this: they are BONELESS thighs. So folks, bones definitely DO NOT dissolve in crock pots. The mystery has been solved

Dig that hole a little deeper

Dan and I were looking at pictures of friends that have gotten married in the last few years. I'm not proud of this moment, but I accidentally made the comment that a few looked like they had put on a few pounds.
After all, who doesn't after you get married. It must be all that good home cooking.

Anyway, back to the story, so I asked Dan if he thought I looked chubbier since we've gotten married and this was his response:
Well...(pause)

I mean I see you everyday so I don't know!
Oh crap I just keep digging the hole...there's no way to fix this one.

Hahahahaha oh my goodness. So freaking funny. Like I'm still laughing about it.

PS. School has started, almost done with the first week, and we're still surviving. We have a bed, dresser, and 2 night stands, and we're almost all the way unpacked (thanks to Dan--I've pretty much jumped ship as far as the unpacking extravaganza is concerned. Blame it on nursing school). We love love love our new little home, our ward, and the area we're living it. It could not have worked out better. I might, dare I say, just kind of love it here...and that's saying something, especially for Utah.

A few things I don't want to forget

December 2011: Kason asked me to go on a date to Temple Square and get some hot chocolate.
We went to Church with Jami and Kason on Christmas and of course the choir sang. I came to realize that there's always that one soprano in every choir that you just wanna smack upside the head. Stop trying to outshine everyone else and sing in harmony with the other sopranos!
Later that same Sunday, we were having dinner and the conversation went as follows:
Dan: Oh shiz.
Kason: What did you just say?
Jami and I were dying we were laughing so hard!

August 2011: My momma was up helping Caitlin and I get settled in for school and we were at my Gramma's house. We'd been helping my Gramma clean the house (it's huge so when she has help she can get it all cleaned top to bottom in one day instead of 2 or 3 by herself). There was a rag I'd used to clean the toilet and I happened to leave said rag on the counter. Later, my mom was washing her face off and she grabbed a rag and wiped her face with it. It was the toilet rag. I think I spit out my toothpaste from laughing so hard. She didn't find it nearly as funny...I don't know why.

July 2012: I have a friend who posts about the funny things you say when you're married that come out completely wrong and they're just hilarious. You can read some of her's and her husband's funny things here. We had a funny moment the other day...read below
Dan: You're so cute sometimes...
*contemplating pause*
Arielle: *stare of disbelief/surprise/deciding whether to laugh or not*
Dan: *recovering quickly, realizing what he said* ALL THE TIME!!!!

Haha we were laughing and I just said so I'm only cute sometimes huh? Guilt tripped him a little bit, then we laughed some more.

Quotes: Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, quoting Elder Neal A. Maxwell, "The Lord doesn't ask about our inabilities or abilities. He only asks about our availabilities. If we show our dependability, He will help us in our capability."

Henry Ford, "Obstacles are the things we see when we take our eyes off our goals."

Kason: He has said some pretty funny things in the time that we watched him. This part I'm sure will be continually added too as Dan and I remember things he's said. I love 4/5 year olds because they're just starting to really understand conversation and some of the things adults say. It's hilarious (sometimes) to hear them repeat it back. Kason especially because he's so stinkin smart!! Love him!

(Jami's leaving for her institute class): Bye mom! Be good!!

Kason calls me ting ting...and does it while giggling ridiculously. It's pretty funny.

Today I am tired...very very tired

I had work this week, and on Saturdays instead of coming in at 2 like I do during the week, I have to be here at 9...which means I have to leave by 830...which means I should be functional by 8 am.

Not the case this morning. In fact quite the opposite.

This particular morning I wanted to shower. The alarm goes off at 715...snooze. Pretty peeved because I DO NOT want to be awake. So I kept sleeping...till 8 am.
I. was. GRUMPY!! Ask Dan, I really was not happy this morning.

So I washed my face and woke up a little, tried to put on a happy face for Dan before he left for work. Then I had to hurry up and get my pretty little self (hah! small joke) together for work. I made up some lunch for myself, toasted some bread and made a shake for breakfast, and then went to go take my vitamins.

This is where it gets great....

I grabbed my prenatal vitamins (no I'm not trying to get preggo, they're just great for your hair and nails, plus a good multivitamin) and I guess yesterday I didn't screw the cap on all the way because I grabbed it and the next thing I know I have half the bottle all over the floor. Seriously. I just rolled my eyes and laughed. Gave myself a little pep talk to slow down, take a deep breath, and just laugh it off.

Well I left for work around 845...just a little late. Luckily there is no one on the freeway that early on Saturday morning and there's not a police man that I've seen yet. I made it to work on time...surprisingly...to find out that my boss had gone to get us breakfast burritos!

This didn't fix the tired...but it sure as heck made me a whole lot happier.

We like to wrestle on Sundays

Often times these wrestling matches end with Dan getting elbowed in the head. All completely unintentional of course.
This last Sunday in particular I got pictures of it, which I might add is quite the difficult task.

This is how it always starts. Cute and cuddly. Then someone (usually me) pokes the other in a ticklish spot...and it's all downhill from there.

See what I mean...it's already started

Then Dan starts stealing the blankets! We were in the middle of washing the sheets or else I'm sure they would have ended up wrapped around someone at some point too.

The little stinker has the nerve to stick his tongue out at me!!

...which winds him up on the floor crying because I accidentally elbowed him the in forehead. Honestly this elbow throwing happens quite frequently and totally by accident. Poor Dan! It happened just tonight in fact, but we'll save that elbowing story for another day.

Said accidental elbowing then leads to the dragging on the floor. Seriously...Dan grabbed me by the ankles and dragged me off our bed and into the living room. Thank goodness I didn't get carpet burn or I would have been PISSED!!!
Drag-age destination: Living room

where I got rolled up in our blanket! Just like the dead body you're trying to dispose of!

And the best part....after the elbow throwing and wrapping up of dead bodies, he still gives me a kiss to make up :]

We laugh...A LOT

Case in point: We're getting ready for bed, and I'm sure I made some smart alleck comment (we're already laughing at this point) and Dan says THAT'S IT! and starts to run around the bed to wrestle me. Well...he only made it around the corner before he totally tripped and biffed it onto the floor. He tripped on the phone charger that he had in his had.

So he crashed and burned straight into the floor. And I fell off the bed I was laughing so hard.

We laugh...a lot. And I want to remember these laughs. They keep us young.

My life in pictures

Our good friend Trent decided it would be funny to fill in our "grateful" board for us a couple of Sunday's ago. Let's just say he thought he was pretty funny, and when I noticed it two days later I though it was pretty funny too.

My momma made this for us for our one year anniversary! The "H" was the cake topper on our wedding cake! I love shadow boxes, and this was just perfect. A nice little memory of our wedding. I love it!! Thanks Momma!!

Colorado has spiders. Lots of spiders. This nasty little guy made his way into my house. Not okay. Not okay at all. It sucked too (and I think this is the way it goes with all spiders) that you don't really notice it until you walk by, and then it scares the crap out of you! I jumped pretty high, and Dan was laughing. Thank goodness he was home though, so I didn't have to kill it! I was pretty determined to figure out which kind of spider it was too (weird I know) and after consulting his bug sheet, I think it was a wolf spider. Yuck!

Don't mind a picture of the bottom of my foot. I have this pretty legit Red Sox hat that my dad got me at Fenway, and it has an adjustable strap in the back. This particular strap is metal. I stepped on it. It busted my heel open. No joke. I was honestly shocked because number 1: I step on things all the time and pretty much never cut my foot; and number 2: the metal piece is so dull it wouldn't even stick in the wall if I chucked it at the wall. So I was pretty shocked. But luckily it closed up wicked fast and it hasn't gotten infected at all! Woot woot!

Poor Dan! He works so hard all week and every Sunday, without fail, we come home from Church, eat lunch, pick a movie to watch, and he passes out right about 2 pm until at least 4. Me on the other hand, I can't nap. I couldn't resist taking a picture because he just looks so cute, all tired and exhausted (don't mind my doting wife comment just now!).

This is my fridge. It's flooded with wedding announcements. Well not really flooded, I guess it could be worse, but seriously 8 announcements is a little crazy! I texted this picture to Abbie and just laughed because there are so so many!! We had a good laugh about it. I'm sure there will be a few more added by the end of the summer, but I'm not holding my breath for it.

I've come to the conclusion that our car rarely has problems during the school year because it only has problems during the summer when we're beating up on it and racking up the miles on it. Last summer, it was an engine mount and the A/C. This summer, it's the alternator. Luckily we have some good friends that had all the tools and after a couple of hours, we had the alternator fixed. Then the car wouldn't start. Great. Really freaking great. At this point I was pretty pissed and just wishing we would've paid the couple hundred bucks to take it in and have it fixed. Well my husband is nothing short of a genius! Thanks to his physics class at EA, he was able to figure out the problem! When they were taking out the old alternator, they hadn't taken off the positive side of the battery so the alternator was sparking. Turns out that that sparking blew out the battery fuse. 3 hrs and $3 later, the car was working again!! Yay for physics classes and for $3 battery fuses.

This is more from the hail storm last week. This was the hail that had gathered on our porch. Dime size. It was crazy!!

Sunday Afternoons

You've gotta love it when you fall asleep on the couch with your husband, and you wake up with drool running down your forehead. Hahahaha, I seriously was pretty grossed out for a second, mostly because it's bodily fluid. Dan and I were laughing so hard for a few minutes about it though. Oh I love it!

On a side note, I found out Saturday (after studying for chemistry for a couple hours with Jennifer and Shelyse) that I got into the nursing program at BYU. I'm finally starting to get excited and happy about it. I think I've just been super stressed about this chemistry test just because I already needed a good grade, and then I was feeling even more stressed to do well on this chemistry test (I'm taking it Monday morning, so if you read this before then, keep me in your prayers!).

Anyway, today was really nice to go to church because I really just needed to know that my Heavenly Father is aware of us and exactly how we're feeling and what we're going through. I just needed to know that we're gonna be okay, that we're gonna make it through this. I've just had a lot of stress get piled on...ya know the usual school, money and just life in general, it's rough. So church today was so nice to just relax and listen-the Primary Program was today- and feel the Spirit. Exactly what I needed. I was reminded and could feel the Lord's love for us, and that as long as we're doing what we need to be doing, and have faith, the Lord is going to help us. It was a great reassurance to know that as long as we're working together to progress, the Lord will bless us.

I love my husband and I'm grateful for the trials we go through because we get to go through them together. We don't have to be alone in it-not that we ever are, because the Lord is always there.

The funnies.

So there were two funnies in the last couple of days that I just feel the need to share. Mostly because they make me laugh when I think about them.

First of all, this weekend, Dan and I went home and were hanging out with my family. We were watching Bones (which by the way is a dang good show!) and the episode was about some guys supposedly getting killed by the chupacabra. I'm pretty sure Abbie is the only one who will appreciate that, but I was laughing pretty dang hard because that was our nick name for Guacamole for a while when he was being a major jerk face. So...it just made me laugh...and shake my head...a lot.

Second of all, yesterday Abbie asked me to turn in her English paper for her because she's in the valley for a couple of days and I told her yes of course! So I'm looking for this folder that she wants it put in to go turn in. I'm search the shelf, practically pulling everything off (and Abbie if you're reading this, I put it all back...no worries!) and I couldn't find it! So I called her and she was telling me what it looked like. Brown blue and green stripes. Well I still couldn't find it. So I grabbed a different one and turned in her paper. Well I get home, sit down on my bed, and you're never going to guess what is sitting on the floor right by my bed. Yepp the folder! Dan had used it the night before when he was writing out a work out plan! It was one of those moments that you just laugh but you're like YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! Story of my life.

I'm noticing a pattern...these funnies usually happen when Abbie is around or in mind. POINT OF THE STORY: Abbie come home!!!!! Haha.

Let's end on a funny.
What did the cannibal get when he came home late?

The Cold Shoulder!

Bahahahahahahah....

He's worth keepin around

Okay so I know it's ridiculously lame to blog about my boyfriend, but as of late, he's been pretty funny. And these funnies (okay there's really only one funny) are definitely blog worthy.

1. It's a boy!!!
Yes. You read that right. Dan decided he wanted to make a fleece blanket--probably because I talk about how much I love mine and how warm it is. Anyway, so we went to WalMart and he told me to pick out a side and he'd pick out the other side. Alright...well I guess this blanket could mismatch horribly, but since it's not mine it really doesn't matter does it? So we perusing the aisles of fleece and there was this Winnie the pooh print and it looked like baby fabric! So I pointed that out, and never again will I ever say what comes to my head without thinking about it first...because it set up the entire evening.

I said: It looks like baby fabric! No big deal right? Wrong. Dan gave me the weirdest look like OH MY GOSH I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU JUST SAID THAT. So I just laughed and kept walking, obviously hiding the embarrassment. So we finally picked out the sides: I picked the little mermaid and he picked cars. It's a very mature college blanket. Then out of no where, Dan says: You know what we can call this?! The BABY MAKER!! Now for those of you who haven't seen the proposal, the blanket that's on the bed is called the baby maker.

We are getting the fabric cut and Dan so kindly tells the WalMart employee (her name is Erin) that it's going to be our baby's blanket. The conversation goes as follows.

Erin: Oh are you expecting?! (With a cute grin on her face)
Me: (Complete and utter shock with a look that could've stopped Dan dead in his tracks) No. No I'm not.
Erin: Are you two engaged?
Me: Nope, just dating.

So as we were leaving, Dan offers to carry the fabric and I quickly informed him that the blanket was for MY baby so I could carry it. When I came home and told Abbie about it, she was telling me about a blog we both read and how the lady is pregnant and according to a Chinese calendar, she's having a boy! So Abbie and I looked it up, and according to the Chinese calendar, Dan and I would have to be having a boy. See for yourself! Click yourself :]

2. I'm thankful for...
I'm just gonna paste this text word for word. Not gonna lie, I almost cried. Almost...
Things I'm thankful for: Someone who allows me to be myself, someone who makes time just for me and spends that time making me feel like the biggest man on campus (small joke lol), someone who makes me want to be smarter every time I open a book, someone who allows me to be faithful to my priesthood, someone who takes my breath away every moment I'm with her, someone who I believe to be the prettiest girl alive. What am I grateful for? I'm grateful for you!

How do you even respond to that?! All I know is I'm one lucky girl...

I guess to finish this off, after this weekend, he's worth keeping around. Everyone's been asking me about him, and honestly I've never felt so shy in my whole life. I just want to hide behind my mom! It's really weird. I talk about just about everything else in my life, but get that personal and apparently I shut down and close off. Didn't know that about myself until a couple of days ago. Back to Dan, he is such a great guy, and I would be so happy with him...so so happy. So we'll just have to see. He makes me so happy. I guess you never realize how much you're lacking sometimes. Weird.

Going on the quote board as soon as I get home!!
"Probably not cause he's so buff and I'm so boobish."
